An international perspective on trademarks and the Internet

INTA's Third Learned Professors Trademark Symposium (January 5, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Washington, DC, USA):
Three trademark professors* will present papers highlighting the emerging trademark legislation, policy and jurisprudence surrounding trademark enforcement in the Internet Age, including
* The use of marks to divert traffic to competitor sites
* Criticism or "gripe" sites
* Search engine advertising based on keyword search terms
* Use of hidden terms and metatags
* Domain name speculation
* ISP liability
* The extraterritorial application of local trademark laws
The symposium will compare how courts and trademark practitioners in different regions respond to these challenges, with a principal focus on the North American, Latin American and Asian perspectives.
